Lumen - video tutorial by Damien Lovegrove

An introduction to the video by Damien Lovegrove

Reviews

“It doesn’t matter what camera you have, lighting is key… this film is THE key… watch it and unlock your imagination!” – David Edwards

Trey said: “Fantastic job on the tutorial! Really love it.”

Ioannis said: “WOW!! That’s another GREAT tutorial video!”

David said: “WOW! You all need a pat on the back for producing a masterpiece. I think that the Lovegrove style could ‘sell’ or ‘educate’ on any subject and you’d walk away with a ton of gear and a feel good factor that you could not buy outside any night club.”

“Technically how it all flowed and was tied together musically and cinematically – fab – loved the way it was created and the easy feel of it. It isn’t dry and it has humour in there as well.”

Piet said: “Love the production value! Just like your previous videos, it makes me want to go out and shoot! Lots of energy, contrary to some of the other tutorials out there.”

Murray Laidlaw said: “If you only buy one video on lighting this year it probably should be this one. This is one of the best lighting videos currently available.”

David Edwards said: “Downloaded and watched (several times) educational, inspirational and excellent way to spark your imagination. A complete must for photographers.”

Steve said: “The new video is a masterpiece. It really contains everything a social or portrait photographer needs to know about flash… it’s a bargain and I will be recommending to my contacts without hesitation.”

Photodiva said: “Loved it. My favourite part: Damien takes a shot and, after reviewing it says, “well that’s a bit …rubbish.” (It spoke to me. I’ve been there so many times, and to hear Damien say it was encouraging.) Of course, then he proceeds to take you through the process of adjusting the lights step by step and shares his insights on how to create a stunning final shot.”

Rico said: Bought mine yesterday, just couldn’t wait. It’s like a new Star Wars episode, just much more interesting.

Richard said: Damien is an utter genius with light… I could watch his videos all day 🙂

Marko said: Just ordered my copy. Nobody can even come close to your light tutorials. Such a joy to watch. Keep on being awesome Damien.

Stephane said: Hi Damien I bought mine last night to complete my collection of all your video tutorials and as always it’s a masterpiece for us photographers. Thank you for all your hard work.

Jon said: Hi Damien I bought mine last night to complete my collection of all your video tutorials and as always it’s a masterpiece for us photographers. Thank you for all your hard work.

FAQs

What devices can I watch the video on?

Whilst the video is exclusively licenced for you only, you may have a copy of the video on multiple devices you own – ie. tablet, phone, TV. We recommend initially downloading the video files onto a desktop or laptop computer then syncing the files to mobile devices. TIP: By creating a playlist in iTunes of the video files in order you can then seemlessly watch the complete production without needing to switch to the next part.

Lumen files are .MOV files. If you are using a PC, some versions of Windows Media Player do not support .MOV files. The Classic version does, apparently.

If you are using Windows Media Player and you are experiencing any issues with sound, please try Quicktime or download this free VLC player for Windows Media Player: https://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-windows.en-GB.html

How can I watch it on my iphone or ipad?

Once you have the file on your computer, open up iTunes and import the files into your media library. Then connect your mobile/tablet and synchronise the files in the usual way. You should be able to then play the videos in your default video apps.

How many download files are there and how big are they?

Lumen has been split into a few smaller files to reduce download times and make it a little easier for the majority of our customers. There are 4 files, each approx 1.5gb.
Please download one file at a time to minimise download issues.

What flash equipment is used in the production?

Damien exclusively uses Godox branded flashes in this latest production including the Godox AD200 pocket flash, AD600BM plus various light modifiers and accessories. The imagery created in the production can easily be produced using many other branded flash equipment with similar specifications and power output.

If you’re looking to up your game in flash photography then this is the production for you. If you’re looking specifically for speedlight photography training then we’d recommend buying Illumination 2.

About Damien Lovegrove

Damien Lovegrove is a world renowned portrait photographer and Fujifilm UK ambassador. He has been a TV cameraman, a commercial photographer, a wedding and portrait photographer and now he is a writer, columnist, teacher, motivator and artist.  He went to the BBC at the age of 19 and trained for three years to be a cameraman, going on to train as a Lighting Director, and leaving the BBC in 1998 to become a full time photographer.

He now specialises in making women look fabulous.

“I’m inspired by beauty and as I have matured as a photographer I’ve learned to see beauty in just about everyone and everywhere. It’s not what I look at that matters, it is what I see.

“Being a good portrait photographer requires key traits like having integrity, fun, respectfulness and a personable character. It wasn’t until I was in my early 30s that I began to gain that all important confidence needed to hone these skills, and I shot my first portrait in 1996 at the age of 32.”

“Some of the leading photographers I met early in my career had confidence and craft skills in bucket loads, but somehow they lost the desire or focus to really push themselves to greatness, and they fell by the wayside. It takes continual practice and improvement to get the most from photography and there are many obstacles along the way to overcome.”

“The secret of making consistently good photographs is to stay inspired and be passionate about photography. Inspiration fuels the learning of new techniques, and passion generates the motivation needed to continually practice.”
